Funny thing how God uses things happening in different areas of our lives to teach us things simultaneously…
I guess I shouldn’t say “funny”…maybe amazing is a better word choice. For the longest time, I have had a great desire to go through the “Daniel” Bible study by Beth Moore. Our church did it a couple of years ago and I was involved in something else and couldn’t participate. Recently when the opportunity came up again, I jumped at the chance! I have been so excited to start and it sure seems like the devil doesn’t want me there. Several times there has been something that has stopped me from being able to go, stood in the way of me doing my homework…things were becoming difficult in regards to “Daniel” needless to say. But God has used it in a mighty way to speak directly to me.
One thing I always love is revisiting a Bible story that I heard as a child. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard stories from the book of Daniel. Hundreds probably, truth be told. After a while, you feel like you’ve got those stories DOWN! What else could we possibly learn? A couple of weeks ago, we were learning about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Now who grew up in church that doesn’t know THIS story by HEART?!?! I can tell you whatever you need to know on this one. Although, there was one thing from our study, I had either forgotten or never noticed. When the three were in the fire and not consumed, King Nebuchadnezzar was amazed of course and called for them to come out of the fire. Scripture tells us that “They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.”
WHAT?????? No smell of fire??? I can rationalize all the other things but no smell of fire? Come on! God may be able to take care of all the other stuff but they would DEFINITELY still smell like fire, right? Amazing!
Yesterday I ran across a prayer request for a little girl named Kate McRae who is 5 years old. She was recently diagnosed with a very aggressive form of cancer and has a tumor on her brain. I said a prayer for her and her family of course, making a mental note to continue to remember them in prayer. Well today, I was presented yet again with another prayer request for her. This time included a video of her parents (dad Aaron is the Multisite Pastor of Cornerstone Christian Fellowship in Chandler, AZ) asking specifically for prayer for their daughter. In the video they ask for prayers for Kate that she not only be unharmed by the “fire” but that she not even smell of smoke at the end of this journey. Wow! God has an awesome way of bringing things around doesn’t He. Ok, God…I got it. Kate will be fervently in my prayers and I pray that by the end of her journey she smells like a sweet precious little princess with no trace of smoke!
Please watch the video below and remember her in your prayers as well. Her Caring Bridge site is www.caringbridge.org/visit/mcraekate and I know any encouragement there would be appreciated for the family. You can follow her updates as well.
